In a major development, the Noida International Airport has received its aerodrome security clearance, bringing it one step closer to starting commercial flight operations. This crucial approval comes shortly after the appointment of an Indian CEO, resolving a key regulatory issue that had delayed the process.

CEO Change Unlocks Security Approval

The breakthrough is directly linked to the appointment of Nitu Samra as interim CEO, replacing Swiss national Christoph Schnellmann in the top role.Under Indian aviation security norms, critical airport leadership positions require clearance and are expected to be held by Indian nationals. The earlier delay in approval was due to this compliance issue.Once the leadership change was implemented, the pending security clearance from authorities was granted, removing one of the final roadblocks for the airport’s operations.

What the Security Clearance Means
The approval of the airport’s Aerodrome Security Programme (ASP) is a critical milestone. It confirms that the airport has met all required standards related to:
●Passenger and baggage screening
●Access control systems
●Surveillance and monitoring
●Emergency and anti-hijack protocols
Without this clearance, no airport in India can begin commercial operations. This step effectively signals that the airport is now operationally ready from a security standpoint.

Flights Expected Soon
With the security clearance in place, the focus now shifts to the final stages before flight operations begin.Reports indicate that commercial flights from Noida International Airport could begin as early as June 2026, subject to final inspections and approvals. The airport, located in Jewar, is expected to play a major role in easing congestion at Delhi’s existing aviation infrastructure and boosting regional connectivity.

A Mega Infrastructure Project Near Completion
The Noida International Airport is one of India’s most ambitious greenfield airport projects. In its first phase, it is designed to handle around 12 million passengers annually, with plans to expand significantly in later phases. Strategically located in the National Capital Region, the airport aims to:
●Improve connectivity for western Uttar Pradesh
●Reduce pressure on Delhi’s IGI Airport
●Boost economic growth and investment

From Delay to Clearance: A Turning Point
The project had faced a temporary setback due to the CEO nationality compliance issue, which delayed security approval. However, the swift decision to appoint an Indian CEO has now cleared the regulatory bottleneck, putting the project firmly back on track.

Countdown to Takeoff Begins
With security clearance secured, the Noida International Airport has crossed one of its final and most critical milestones. All eyes are now on the official launch of flight operations —a moment that will mark a major transformation in NCR’s aviation landscape.Because after years of planning and delays, the runway is finally ready for takeoff.
