Delhi’s public transport infrastructure is poised for a major transformation as the government accelerates work on three key corridors under Metro Phase-4, a move expected to significantly enhance connectivity across Delhi and the NCR region.

The Delhi government has released its financial share of Rs 3,386.18 crore for these projects, giving fresh momentum to the long-awaited expansion. The three corridors together will span a length of 47.225 kilometres, with a total estimated project cost of approximately Rs 14,630.80 crore.

According to Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, the new corridors will directly connect several underserved parts of the capital to the metro network, making public transport stronger, more accessible and environmentally sustainable. The government aims to complete the construction within the next four years.

Big Push to Delhi-NCR Connectivity
Officials said that the tendering process for the corridors is already underway and construction has begun on certain stretches. Once operational, the new metro lines will improve connectivity across North, Central and South Delhi, while also strengthening links with NCR towns.

The impact will be visible on city roads — reduced traffic congestion, shorter travel times, and a clear shift toward metro as the primary mode of daily commuting. The Chief Minister emphasized that Phase-4 is being designed to meet Delhi’s future mobility needs with a modern, reliable and low-carbon transport system.

With rising pollution and traffic pressure, authorities believe this expansion will help reduce dependence on private vehicles and contribute significantly to cleaner air.

Delhi’s Financial Contribution to the Projects
The financial blueprint for Phase-4 has also been finalized:
◆The Lajpat Nagar–Saket G Block and Inderlok–Indraprastha corridors together will cost around Rs 8,399.81 crore, with Delhi government bearing Rs 1,987.86 crore.
◆The strategically important Rithala–Kundli corridor, connecting Delhi with Haryana, will cost approximately Rs 6,230.99 crore, out of which Rs 1,398.32 crore will be contributed by Delhi, while the remaining amount will be jointly shared by Delhi and Haryana.

This shows that Phase-4 is not just a Delhi project, but a regional mobility upgrade for the entire NCR.
1) Lajpat Nagar–Saket G Block Corridor
This corridor is expected to be a game-changer for South Delhi. Stretching over 8.385 km, it will have 8 elevated stations, ensuring faster and smoother travel.
The line will connect: Lajpat Nagar – Andrews Ganj – Greater Kailash-1 – Chirag Delhi – Pushp Bhawan – Saket District Centre – Pushp Vihar

Once operational, several residential and commercial hubs in South Delhi will get direct metro access, easing road congestion and cutting commute times drastically.
2) Inderlok–Indraprastha Corridor
Considered the most strategic Phase-4 link, this corridor will ease congestion in Central Delhi’s busiest zones.
Spanning 12.377 km, it will have 10 stations (1 elevated and 9 underground), enabling minimal surface disruption in densely populated areas.

It will connect: Inderlok – Daya Basti – Sarai Rohilla – Jhandewalan – Nabi Karim – New Delhi Railway Station – Delhi Gate – Delhi Secretariat–IG Stadium

This corridor will provide seamless access to railway stations, government offices, and business districts, reducing pressure on surface transport.
3) Rithala–Kundli Corridor
The longest and most impactful corridor, this 26.463 km route with 21 stations will directly link North-West Delhi with Haryana.
Covering areas like: Rohini Sectors 25–36, Barwala, Bawana Industrial Area and Kundli

This corridor will benefit thousands of daily commuters, especially industrial workers and residents of Rohini-Bawana belt, while providing fast access to Sonipat and Kundli from Delhi.

A Sustainable Step Towards Future Mobility
With Delhi facing rapid urban expansion, Phase-4 of the metro is seen as a crucial step towards a future-ready transport system. Authorities believe the new corridors will not only improve mobility but also reshape commuting culture by making metro travel more convenient, faster and greener.

Once completed, Metro Phase-4 is expected to redefine urban travel in Delhi-NCR and position the region among the most well-connected metropolitan areas in India.
