In a major move to prevent power shortages during peak summer, the Noida power department has proposed building two new substations in Dadri and Jewar as part of a ₹70-crore infrastructure upgrade plan for Gautam Buddh Nagar district.
Two New Substations Planned
Authorities plan to set up 33/11 kV substations in Dadri and Jewar to meet rising electricity demand, particularly in rural and rapidly developing areas. Officials expect peak demand to cross 3,000 MW this summer, making urgent upgrades necessary.
The proposal has been submitted to the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) for approval under the FY 2026–27 business plan.
Wider Network Strengthening
The Rs 70-crore plan goes beyond new substations and includes several critical improvements:
●Upgrading ageing transformers
●Replacing old cables and electric poles
●Splitting overloaded feeders in high-demand zones
●Strengthening rural power infrastructure
Supporting dense urban pockets with capacity upgrades
Rural belts such as Dankaur, Dadri, and Jewar are expected to benefit the most, though parts of urban Noida will also see improvements.

Focus on Summer Preparedness
Officials say the upgrades aim to prevent outages during extreme heat, when air-conditioning and irrigation demands surge.
Urban modernisation work is already underway under the Centre’s Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS), and the new rural projects will run alongside it.
Approval Expected Soon
The power department expects budget approval by March. Once cleared, construction of substations and related works will begin immediately to ensure readiness before peak summer months.
