In a major relief for industries and commuters heading to Yamuna City, the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) has directed the expressway management to remove a toll gate installed near the ramp connecting Sector 28 and Sector 29.
Officials warned that if the toll plaza is not removed voluntarily, the authority may demolish it using a bulldozer.
Toll Collection Triggered Protests from Industrial Units
The ramp between Sector 28 and Sector 29 was constructed by YEIDA in 2025 to provide direct connectivity to Yamuna City’s industrial sectors. At the time, it was clearly stated that no toll would be charged for vehicles using this ramp.
However, about five months ago, the expressway operator reportedly set up a toll booth again, forcing commuters and industrial workers to pay around ₹80 per trip. This sparked strong objections from entrepreneurs operating in the area.
Industrial associations complained that businesses were being forced to pay toll simply to reach their factories.
Toll Gates Set Up at Multiple Access Points
Currently, toll booths exist on ramps connecting Yamuna City near milestones 11, 12, 15, 16, 26 and 36 kilometres along the Yamuna Expressway, while the main toll plaza is located at the 39-kilometre mark near Jewar.
Since the 60-metre parallel road along the expressway is still incomplete, residents, workers and plot owners often have no choice but to access the area through the expressway itself.
Growing Industrial Activity in Yamuna City
Yamuna City is gradually emerging as a major industrial hub. Authorities have already allotted more than 3,000 industrial plots, and 52 companies have received completion certificates.
Production has already started in 27 companies, while construction is ongoing in around 340 industrial units. Officials estimate that by the end of this year, nearly 180 companies will begin operations in the region.
Additionally, more than 30,000 residential plots have been allotted, with over 1,100 houses already constructed, indicating rapid urban development in the area.

Daily Traffic Rising
According to officials, more than 200 vehicles use the ramp daily, many of them belonging to employees and entrepreneurs travelling to industrial units.
YEIDA CEO R.K. Singh said the authority has asked the expressway management to remove the toll immediately.
“If the toll plaza is not removed, we will take action and demolish it,” he warned.
Authorities believe that once Jewar International Airport becomes operational, industrial activity and traffic in Yamuna City will increase significantly, making toll-free access essential for smooth connectivity.
