A shocking case of alleged sexual exploitation has emerged from Nashik, where a self-styled godman has been arrested for raping a woman under the pretext of spiritual rituals and past-life claims.
The accused, identified as Ashok Kumar Kharat, allegedly posed as a spiritual leader and manipulated multiple victims over the years. Police have taken him into custody following a fresh complaint that details disturbing allegations of abuse and deception.
Victim Allegedly Manipulated Through Spiritual Claims
According to the FIR, the accused first came into contact with the woman in 2013 when her family approached him for guidance regarding her marriage. He allegedly gained the family’s trust by offering predictions and rituals.
Years later, during a personal consultation, he reportedly isolated the woman and claimed she was an “apsara” (celestial being) from a past life. He further declared himself to be a divine figure with special powers and allegedly convinced her that she was destined to be with him.
The complaint states that he used these claims to emotionally manipulate the victim and gain control over her decisions.
Allegations of Sexual Assault Under Religious Pretext
The woman has alleged that the accused called her to his office under the guise of conducting religious rituals. During these visits, he allegedly forced physical contact and later sexually assaulted her.
He reportedly used fear and intimidation, warning her of “divine consequences” if she refused or disclosed the incidents. The complaint also mentions repeated instances where the accused allegedly used similar tactics to exploit her.
Claims of Drugging and Forced Abortion
The FIR further alleges that the accused gave the woman “ritual water” and substances during these meetings. After repeated assaults, the woman reportedly became pregnant.
When she informed him, he allegedly provided medication that led to heavy bleeding, resulting in a miscarriage. These claims are now part of the ongoing investigation.

Police Investigation Underway
The case has been registered at a local police station in Nashik, and authorities have initiated a detailed investigation into the allegations. Officials suspect that more victims could come forward as the case unfolds.
Police are also examining the accused’s past activities, as preliminary reports suggest that he may have exploited multiple women using similar methods.
Wider Concern Over Fake ‘Godmen’
This case once again highlights the dangers posed by self-proclaimed spiritual leaders who exploit faith and vulnerability. Experts and authorities have repeatedly warned citizens to remain cautious and verify credentials before trusting such individuals.
