The case centres on competing claims over Sunjay Kapur’s will, with his children challenging its authenticity and raising questions over whether it was genuine and properly executed. The dispute has also drawn in Sunjay Kapur’s mother, Rani Kapur, who has separately questioned the will and the disclosure of assets.
Court Orders Status Quo on Estate
The Delhi High Court has ordered that status quo be maintained on the entire estate, meaning no changes can be made to the assets for now. The court has restrained the creation of any third-party rights over the property, preventing any sale, transfer or reassignment of any part of the estate while the case is ongoing.
The court has also directed that full account statements be submitted. It has further restrained the operation of foreign bank accounts and cryptocurrency holdings linked to the estate.
The judges observed that “suspicious circumstances” had been raised by the petitioners and also by Defendant 3, Rani Kapur. The court said the responsibility now lies heavily on Priya Kapur, identified as Defendant 1, to clear doubts surrounding the will and the handling of assets.

Claims and Counterclaims Over Will
At the centre of the dispute is the authenticity of Sunjay Kapur’s will. His children have challenged it and questioned whether it is genuine and properly executed. Their lawyers argued that there are multiple inconsistencies, including questionable language, lack of registration and unclear preparation details.
Senior Advocate Mahesh Jethmalani, representing the children, told the court that the will requires deeper scrutiny, especially because Priya Kapur is both the person presenting it and the sole beneficiary. According to the argument, this dual role raises serious concerns about fairness and transparency.
On the other side, Senior Advocate Rajiv Nayar, appearing for Priya Kapur, strongly denied all allegations. He maintained that there had been no concealment of assets and insisted that full financial disclosures had already been made. He also rejected claims of asset siphoning and defended the will as valid, stating that it follows a structure similar to another family will.
Mother’s Challenge Adds Fresh Twist
Sunjay Kapur’s mother has also stepped in to challenge the will. She has claimed that she was never informed about its existence and has raised questions about whether all assets have been properly disclosed.
Her intervention means the dispute is no longer limited to one set of claimants. Multiple family members are now questioning how the estate is being handled and whether everything has been fairly documented.
