IndiGo has extended the suspension of flights to and from Saudi Arabia amid security concerns following recent attacks in the region, the Indian Embassy in Riyadh announced on Friday.
According to the embassy, flights connecting Riyadh will remain cancelled until October 31, 2026, inclusive. Services to and from Jeddah, Dammam and Madinah have been suspended until October 27.
Recent Attacks Raise Security Concerns
The latest extension follows an attack on King Fahd International Airport in Dammam on Wednesday that killed an Indian national and injured two others. Another Indian national was injured in a separate attack at Saudi Aramco’s Shaybah oilfield the same day.
The disruptions come amid reports of drone and missile attacks targeting Saudi Arabia’s airports, energy facilities and other critical infrastructure.
Other Airlines Also Suspend Flights
Air India and Air India Express have suspended flights on all routes to and from Saudi Arabia until October 24, while Akasa Air has extended its suspension until October 27, according to the information provided.
The cancellations have also affected Indian Umrah pilgrims. The Ministry of External Affairs is coordinating with airlines and tour operators to help affected pilgrims return to India.
Embassy Offers Assistance to Indian Nationals
The Indian Embassy in Riyadh and the Consulate General in Jeddah are providing welfare assistance and operating 24-hour control rooms for Indian nationals affected by the situation.
The Indian mission has advised citizens to follow Saudi authorities’ instructions, remain alert and seek shelter inside buildings during aerial attacks. It has also cautioned against filming or sharing images of interceptions and impact sites, which could have legal consequences under Saudi law.
Indian nationals requiring urgent departure may consider travelling through Bahrain, Kuwait or Qatar, subject to obtaining the necessary visas.
Saudi Arabia is home to approximately 2.74 million Indian nationals. Authorities continue to issue advisories as the regional security situation develops.
