Relief for Noida Residents: Noise Barriers Approved on Elevated Roads After Years of Complaints

In a major relief for residents of Noida, authorities have given the green signal to install noise (sound) barriers along the city’s busy elevated roads. The decision comes after years of persistent complaints from people living near these high-speed corridors, where constant traffic noise has become a serious concern affecting daily life and health.

Elevated Roads: Convenience for Traffic, Trouble for Residents
Noida’s elevated roads were built to ease congestion and improve connectivity, but for thousands of residents living nearby, they brought an unintended problem — round-the-clock noise pollution. With vehicles moving continuously, often at high speeds, noise levels have remained significantly high, especially in sectors located right next to these roads. Many residents have reported sleep disturbances, stress, and reduced quality of life due to constant sound exposure.

Where Will Noise Barriers Be Installed
The plan focuses on key elevated stretches such as the MP-2 elevated road (Sector 18 to 61) and the Bhangel elevated corridor, both of which pass through densely populated residential zones. These areas include multiple housing societies, schools, and hospitals, making noise control even more critical. Authorities have acknowledged that these stretches require urgent intervention to protect residents from long-term health impacts.

Project Details: Cost, Planning and Execution
The project has received in-principle approval, and the next step will involve issuing tenders for execution. Estimates suggest that installing noise barriers on key stretches could cost around Rs 19–25 crore, depending on the road section.Experts, including institutions like IIT, are expected to be involved in validating the design and effectiveness of the barriers to ensure long-term results.

A Long-Pending Demand Finally Addressed
Residents have been demanding noise barriers for years, citing excessive noise levels beyond permissible limits. Earlier proposals remained on paper, but growing pressure and repeated complaints have now pushed authorities to act.The move is being seen as a significant step toward improving urban livability, especially in areas where infrastructure growth has outpaced environmental safeguards.

More Than Just Infrastructure: A Quality of Life Issue
This development highlights a key challenge for rapidly growing cities — balancing infrastructure expansion with the well-being of residents. While elevated roads have transformed connectivity in Noida, the installation of noise barriers signals a shift toward more people-centric planning, where comfort and health are given equal importance.

The Road Ahead
With approval now in place, residents are hopeful that execution will follow swiftly. Timely implementation will be crucial, as delays could prolong the discomfort faced by thousands living along these corridors. For Noida, this project is not just about reducing noise — it’s about restoring peace in neighborhoods that have lived with constant traffic sound for years.
