Tension escalated outside The Wisdom Tree School in Greater Noida West after parents staged a protest against a steep increase in school fees. Alleging that the school management arbitrarily raised fees by nearly 40 percent, angry parents gathered outside the campus carrying placards and raising slogans demanding immediate rollback of the revised fee structure.
The protest reflects growing frustration among parents who say the sudden hike has placed an unbearable financial burden on families already dealing with rising living expenses. Several guardians accused the school administration of ignoring district-level instructions and implementing the fee increase without proper consultation.
Parents claimed that the revised fee structure was introduced despite clear directions issued by the district administration regarding annual fee hikes in private schools.
DM’s Directive Allowed Only Limited Fee Hike
The controversy gained momentum after parents highlighted recent instructions issued during a meeting of the Fee Regulatory Committee chaired by District Magistrate Meha Roopam. During the meeting, schools were reportedly directed not to increase fees beyond 7 percent for the current academic session.
The administration had taken the step following repeated complaints from parents across the district regarding arbitrary fee hikes by private schools. Officials had observed that many institutions increase fees every year by 20 to 50 percent, putting additional pressure on middle-class families.
While several schools reportedly complied with the administration’s directive, parents alleged that The Wisdom Tree School ignored the guidelines and imposed a hike far above the permitted limit.
Guardians participating in the protest argued that such actions undermine public trust and raise serious questions about regulation and accountability in private education institutions.

Parents Submit Complaint to Education Department
In addition to the protest, parents have also filed formal complaints with the education department seeking intervention in the matter. They demanded an immediate investigation into the fee revision process and requested authorities to ensure compliance with district regulations.
Some parents claimed that the increased fees would severely impact household budgets, especially for families with more than one child studying in private schools. Protesters also urged the government to establish stronger monitoring mechanisms to prevent schools from implementing arbitrary financial decisions.
Parents warned that if the issue remains unresolved, they may intensify their agitation in the coming days. Many demanded transparency in fee calculations and accountability from school administrations.

The incident has once again brought attention to the broader issue of fee regulation in private schools across Uttar Pradesh. Over the past few years, complaints regarding sudden fee hikes, additional charges, and lack of transparency have frequently surfaced in urban areas such as Noida and Greater Noida.
