Delhi Metro is on track for a major transformation as the Magenta Line is poised to become the longest metro corridor in the national capital, overtaking the Pink Line. The milestone comes after the Union Cabinet approved a new 9.9-kilometre underground stretch between Ramakrishna Ashram Marg and Indraprastha, significantly expanding the corridor.
Once completed, the Magenta Line’s total length will increase to 76.6 kilometres, making it not only the longest line in the Delhi Metro network but also one of the most critical corridors in terms of underground connectivity and interchange access.
Magenta Line to Overtake Pink Line
Currently, the Pink Line, running from Majlis Park to Shiv Vihar, holds the record as Delhi Metro’s longest corridor at 59.2 km. Even after its Phase-4 extension from Majlis Park to Maujpur, which will take it close to 72 km, it will still fall short of the Magenta Line’s expanded length.
With 56 stations in total, the Magenta Line will set a new benchmark in both scale and connectivity.
All-Underground Stretch Through Delhi’s Power Corridor
The newly approved Ramakrishna Ashram Marg–Indraprastha section will be entirely underground and will include nine new stations. This extension will seamlessly link the existing Botanical Garden–Krishna Park Extension operational stretch with the under-construction Krishna Park Extension–Ramakrishna Ashram Marg segment.
The project will directly connect key areas in Central Vista, significantly improving access to Delhi’s administrative, judicial, and cultural hubs.
Proposed stations along the route include:
●Ramakrishna Ashram Marg
●Shivaji Stadium
●Central Secretariat
●Kartavya Bhawan
●India Gate
●War Memorial–High Court
●Baroda House
●Bharat Mandapam
●Indraprastha

Major Relief for Rajiv Chowk Congestion
The new corridor will offer multiple high-value interchanges, including:
●Yellow & Violet Lines at Central Secretariat
●Airport Express Line at Shivaji Stadium
●Blue Line at Indraprastha
A dedicated subway between Shivaji Stadium and Rajiv Chowk is also proposed, allowing Airport Express passengers direct access to Connaught Place. This is expected to significantly reduce congestion at Rajiv Chowk, one of the busiest metro stations in the country.
Magenta Line to Lead Underground Network
In terms of underground infrastructure, the Magenta Line will create a new record. While the Yellow Line currently has the highest number of underground stations at 20, the Magenta Line will have 31 underground stations once Phase-4 and Phase-5A works are completed.
This expansion highlights Delhi Metro’s growing engineering capabilities and advanced tunnelling expertise.
Phase-4: Massive Expansion Underway
Under Delhi Metro Phase-4, work is progressing on six new corridors spanning 112.4 km, with 94 new stations planned. Corridors expected to open later this year include:
●Majlis Park–Maujpur
●Ramakrishna Ashram Marg–Janakpuri West
●Aerocity–Tughlakabad (New Golden Line)
Other approved corridors such as Inderlok–Indraprastha, Rithala–Narela–Kundli, and Saket G Block–Lajpat Nagar are also under active development.
