The approval was granted during a high-level review meeting chaired by the Delhi Chief Minister, where officials assessed unresolved civic challenges in the Trans-Yamuna region. During the meeting, departments were instructed to move away from paperwork-based planning and instead focus on ground-level needs and priority areas.
Officials were directed to identify the most affected localities and ensure that development works are carried out in a phased and time-bound manner. The emphasis, according to sources, is on visible improvement and quick execution rather than delayed or cosmetic repairs.
Monsoon Preparedness Takes Centre Stage
A major portion of the ₹728 crore allocation will be used to improve stormwater drainage systems, which have long been blamed for waterlogging and traffic chaos during the rainy season. Several stretches of East Delhi are known to flood even after moderate rainfall, disrupting daily life and damaging property.
Along with drainage, badly damaged roads will be repaired and resurfaced, while basic civic facilities such as footpaths, crossings, and public utilities will also be upgraded. Officials said these steps are aimed at reducing accidents, easing traffic congestion, and ensuring smoother movement during monsoon months.
