Anger is brewing among residents of Greater Noida’s Sector Alpha-2 after authorities granted permission for a fair to be organised in the middle of the residential area. Locals say the decision has ignored ground realities of congestion, safety, and the academic pressure faced by students, especially with board examinations just weeks away.
Sector Alpha-2 is one of the most densely populated areas in Greater Noida, with over 500 shops and offices concentrated around its main market. The area witnesses heavy footfall throughout the day, while evenings often see severe traffic congestion. Residents claim that even two-wheelers struggle to pass through the market during peak hours.
Traffic Chaos Already a Daily Struggle
According to locals, the market area remains jam-packed every evening, with frequent traffic snarls becoming routine. Residents argue that allowing a fair at such a congested location will worsen the situation, making movement nearly impossible for pedestrians, emergency vehicles, and daily commuters.
“The market is already overflowing. Adding a fair here will completely choke the sector,” said a resident, expressing concern over public safety and accessibility.
Exams Around the Corner, Students Under Pressure
The strongest opposition has come from parents and students, as school examinations, including board exams and assessments for junior classes, are set to begin in the coming weeks. The fair is planned on a small vacant patch barely ten metres away from residential houses, raising fears of loud music, announcements, and crowd noise disrupting studies.
Residents say the constant noise and congestion will make it extremely difficult for students to concentrate during a crucial academic period. “Children are already under pressure. This fair will add unnecessary stress,” said an RWA member.

RWA Demands Fair Be Shifted Outside the Sector
The sector’s Residents Welfare Association (RWA), led by president Subhash Bhati, has strongly objected to the decision. The RWA has demanded that the fair be shifted to an open area outside the residential sector, where it would not disturb daily life or compromise student preparation.
Residents have questioned why permission was granted without consulting the RWA or assessing the impact on traffic and residents.
Authority Assures Review After Residents’ Protest
Following the backlash, Greater Noida Authority’s senior manager Rithik stated that the concerns raised by residents would be examined and that the matter would be reviewed. However, locals remain sceptical and have warned of continued protest if the decision is not reversed.
For now, Sector Alpha-2 residents hope authorities act swiftly to prevent what they fear could turn into a prolonged disturbance during a critical time for students.
