In the Union Budget for 2026–27, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has allocated Rs 12,846.15 crore for the Delhi Police. This marks an increase of 4.57 percent over the previous financial year, when ₹12,259.16 crore was earmarked for the force.

Focus on Modernisation and Infrastructure Upgrade
Delhi Police officials said the enhanced budget aims to strengthen infrastructure, technology, and operational efficiency. The funding will be used to modernise policing systems and improve preparedness for emerging law-and-order challenges in the national capital.

Model Traffic System and Communication Network
A significant portion of the budget will go towards developing a model traffic management system in the NCR region. Upgrading communication networks, installing advanced traffic signals, and improving real-time coordination are key priorities under the new allocation.

High-Tech Weapons, CCTV Expansion and Cyber Training
The funds will also be utilised for procuring modern weapons, advanced investigation tools, and expanding the CCTV surveillance network across Delhi. Special training programmes will be introduced to equip police personnel to deal with cybercrime and technology-driven offences.

New Police Stations and Staff Housing
To strengthen on-ground policing, the budget includes plans for:
◆18 new police stations
◆7 new police outposts
◆180 staff residential quarters
These facilities will support operations across 15 police districts, 194 police stations, and specialised units.

Why the Budget Hike Was Necessary

With Delhi’s rapidly growing population, increasing traffic congestion, and rising cyber threats, officials say additional funding was essential. Over the past few years, the focus on AI-based surveillance, digital policing, and infrastructure expansion has made higher budgetary support unavoidable.
