Greater Noida is gearing up for the approaching summer season with an aggressive upgrade of its power infrastructure, aiming to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply despite a sharp rise in demand. With peak summer load projected to touch 950 MW, more than 100 MW higher than last year, authorities have accelerated work on substations, transformers and transmission lines to avoid outages and tripping issues that residents and industries often face during heatwaves.
Officials said the focus is on strengthening the backbone of the power network before temperatures soar. One of the key projects underway is the integration of the 33 kV Iteda substation with the 220 kV Jalpura substation, a move expected to significantly improve power distribution across industrial sectors and densely populated residential areas in Greater Noida West.
Iteda Substation Gets Capacity Boost
The Iteda substation, which supplies electricity to industrial Sectors 10, 12 and 16, is being upgraded to handle higher loads during peak hours. The facility already houses two high-capacity transformers and has now been equipped with an additional 10 MVA transformer, increasing its ability to manage demand during extreme summer conditions.
Officials said the transmission line connecting Jalpura and Iteda is nearly complete and is expected to be energised by mid to late February. The entire upgrade project has been executed at a cost of approximately ₹8 crore. Once operational, the enhanced network is expected to reduce tripping caused by overloading — a recurring issue in recent summers.
Why Power Demand Is Rising
Authorities attribute the steep rise in electricity demand to rapid population growth, expanding housing societies, and increased industrial and commercial activity in Greater Noida. New residential clusters and business hubs have placed additional pressure on an already stretched power system, making infrastructure expansion unavoidable.
To address this, power distribution agencies and development authorities are working in coordination to expand both capacity and coverage.

More Substations, Stronger Network
Apart from the Iteda upgrade, plans are underway for a new power substation in Badalpur, which will further ease load pressure in surrounding areas. In recent months, 11 new 33/11 kV substations and two switching stations have already been commissioned. Additionally, the capacity of 12 existing substations has been enhanced, adding over 150 MVA to the system.
Transformer capacity across the network has also been increased to ensure smoother supply during peak hours.
Relief for Residents and Industries
Officials said these measures are aimed at ensuring stable electricity for homes, offices and industrial units during the harsh summer months. With timely execution and close monitoring, the upgraded power infrastructure is expected to minimise outages, improve reliability and support Greater Noida’s growing urban and industrial landscape.
As summer approaches, residents can expect a more resilient power system designed to withstand rising demand without frequent disruptions.
