Residents of Noida and Ghaziabad have received reassuring news as Indraprastha Gas Limited confirmed that the supply of Piped Natural Gas (PNG) for households and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) for vehicles will remain uninterrupted despite ongoing global energy disruptions.
The assurance comes at a time when geopolitical tensions in the Middle East have raised concerns about fuel supply chains and possible shortages in several countries.IGL clarified that domestic consumers and transport services in the Delhi-NCR region will not face disruptions in PNG and CNG availability.
Government Declares PNG and CNG as “Mission-Critical” Services
The assurance follows the Natural Gas (Supply Regulation) Order 2026 issued by the Government of India on March 9.
Under the order, PNG for household cooking and CNG used for transportation have been categorised as “Schedule-I” or mission-critical sectors.
This classification means that in case of global supply disruptions, gas availability for these sectors will be prioritised to ensure essential services continue without interruption.
Relief for Millions of Consumers
The announcement brings relief to millions of households and vehicle owners across Delhi-NCR who depend on natural gas for daily needs.
In cities like Noida and Ghaziabad, a large number of homes use PNG pipelines for cooking, while thousands of public and private vehicles rely on CNG as a primary fuel.
Officials said that prioritising domestic supply will ensure that basic household requirements and transportation services remain unaffected, even if international fuel markets face volatility.
Global Energy Tensions Raise Concerns
Recent geopolitical developments in the Middle East have triggered concerns about disruptions in global fuel supply chains.
Energy experts warn that international conflicts often impact oil and gas transportation routes, shipping costs and market prices, which can eventually affect domestic supply systems.
However, authorities have assured that India’s domestic gas distribution network remains stable and that essential sectors will continue receiving priority allocation.

Focus on Energy Security
The government’s decision to prioritise PNG and CNG highlights its broader strategy to protect energy security for households and public transportation.
Officials say the move will help maintain stability in urban gas supply systems while ensuring that consumers do not face sudden shortages or disruptions.
With the continued expansion of city gas distribution networks, PNG and CNG have become critical components of India’s clean energy transition and urban infrastructure.
