Delhi-NCR is about to get a major aviation boost as the long-awaited Jewar International Airport in Noida is set to be inaugurated on October 30, 2025. According to Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu, commercial flights are expected to commence 45 days after the inauguration, marking a new era of connectivity for the region.
Located about 75 km from Delhi, Jewar International Airport will be the second international airport in the NCR region after IGI Airport and is designed to handle the ever-growing passenger demand. Airlines have already expressed keen interest, with several planning direct connections from Jewar once operations begin.
A Project Decades in the Making
Although the idea for an international airport at Jewar dates back to 2001, the project gained real momentum only after Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone in November 2021. The airport is being developed under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model by Zurich International, a Swiss company known for its expertise in airport infrastructure.
Mega Investment and Massive Capacity
Built at a cost of Rs 29,650 crore on 5,845 hectares, the airport boasts six runways and parking space for 178 aircraft at once. In its initial phase, the airport can handle 40 million passengers annually, with capacity projected to grow significantly over the next two decades.
The project will unfold in four phases:
Phase 1: 12 million passengers – Rs 4,588 crore (2023–2027)
Phase 2: 30 million passengers – Rs 5,983 crore (2031–2032)
Phase 3: 50 million passengers – Rs 8,415 crore (2036–2037)
Phase 4: 70 million passengers – Rs 10,575 crore (2040–2050)
Connectivity and Destinations
Initially, Jewar International Airport will offer direct flights to 10 major Indian cities including Chandigarh, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Mumbai, Lucknow, Varanasi, Gorakhpur, Ahmedabad, and Jaipur. Future plans include more domestic and international destinations.
The airport is strategically linked to four major expressways—Ganga, Yamuna, Delhi–Mumbai, and Noida–Greater Noida—and will also connect with rapid rail, metro, and a planned pod-taxi system.
World-Class Facilities
The airport features a 100,000 sq. m terminal with 28 aircraft stands, a 40-acre maintenance hub, and an 80-acre multi-modal cargo center. Passenger convenience is prioritized with smooth check-in areas, modern security checks, multiple food courts, and rest areas. Direct bus services will link the airport with major cities in Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Uttarakhand, ensuring seamless last-mile connectivity.
With its state-of-the-art infrastructure, world-class passenger experience, and massive scale, Jewar International Airport is poised to transform aviation in North India, reduce congestion at Delhi’s IGI Airport, and create a new hub for domestic and international travel.
