More than 15,000 residents of Sector 44 are facing repeated power outages and deteriorating infrastructure, prompting the Resident Welfare Association (RWA) to seek urgent intervention from the power department.
While the outages are often brief, residents say the frequent disruptions have begun affecting daily life, especially for families working from home, students preparing for exams, and elderly residents dependent on medical equipment.
Rusted Panels, Defunct Transformers Raise Alarm
Residents have highlighted multiple safety concerns in the sector’s power infrastructure. According to the RWA, rusted electrical panels with broken doors pose a serious hazard and need immediate replacement.
Three transformers in the area have reportedly remained non-functional for an extended period. In addition, nearly 7 to 8 kilometres of damaged underground cables have not been repaired for years.
RWA general secretary Sudhir Sood said the issues have persisted despite repeated complaints.
Flood-Prone Substation Adds to Worries
Residents also flagged that the local substation becomes waterlogged during the monsoon, leaving electrical equipment submerged. They fear this could lead to major breakdowns or accidents if not addressed before the next rainy season.
The combination of ageing infrastructure and poor maintenance has intensified concerns about long-term reliability and safety.

Power Department Assures Action
Following complaints, residents wrote to the chief engineer of the Noida power department demanding urgent repairs.
Chief engineer SK Jain acknowledged the concerns and said the issues have been noted and will be addressed soon.
However, residents say they expect a clear timeline for repairs to restore confidence in the system.
