Another Close Call in Noida: Parked Vehicle Slips into Open Drain

A parked car slipped into an uncovered drain in Sector 70 on Friday, once again highlighting ongoing infrastructure and safety concerns in the Delhi-NCR region. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident.
According to police, the car was parked near an open drain in Basai village when it suddenly slid and fell inside. The driver had stepped out moments earlier. Panic-stricken, he immediately alerted local authorities.
Personnel from Phase 3 police station reached the spot promptly and, with the help of local residents, managed to pull the vehicle out of the drain. Since there were no passengers inside, the incident did not result in any casualties.

Open Drains Continue to Pose Risk
The incident has intensified concerns about uncovered drains and poorly secured civic infrastructure in the city. Residents have repeatedly flagged such open stretches as potential “death points,” especially in residential and developing sectors.
The episode has also revived public memory of the tragic January incident in Sector 150, where a software engineer lost his life after his car plunged into a water-filled construction pit. That accident triggered widespread outrage and forced the Noida Authority to review safety protocols at construction sites.

Pattern of Civic Negligence Raises Alarm
The Noida incident follows closely on the heels of another fatal case in Delhi’s Janakpuri, where a biker died after falling into a deep pit dug for pipeline work. Allegations of missing barricades and warning signage had sparked strong public criticism.
Urban safety experts say repeated accidents involving open drains, pits and excavation sites point to systemic gaps in monitoring and enforcement.

Growing Public Demand for Accountability
While the latest incident ended without injuries, residents argue that it serves as yet another warning. Civic bodies are being urged to ensure:
●Proper covering of open drains
●Installation of warning signs and barricades
●Regular safety audits of construction zones
●Swift response mechanisms during emergencies
As Delhi-NCR continues to expand rapidly, infrastructure safety remains under scrutiny, with citizens demanding stronger accountability from local authorities.
