Gurgaon is set to witness a major infrastructure upgrade as authorities move ahead with plans for a double-decker corridor that will carry both a metro line and an elevated road on the same stretch.
Officials said the proposed model will be implemented between Jwala Mill T-point — where Major Sushil Aima Road ends — and Dundahera. The move comes after the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) planned an elevated road along Old Delhi-Gurugram Road from Atul Kataria Road to Dundahera.
Why the Double-Decker Model?
According to Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL) officials, the metro alignment on Old Delhi Road was slightly modified from Rao Gajraj Singh Road towards Dundahera to serve more commuters along Old Delhi Road and Udyog Vihar.
“The alignment change allows better coverage and integration with other transport systems. Since GMDA is building an elevated road on the same stretch, the double-decker model became the most practical solution,” a senior GMRL official said.
The Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) has also shifted its alignment from Old Delhi Road to the Delhi-Jaipur Highway, further influencing the redesign.
Similar Proposal on SPR
A similar double-decker structure has been proposed for the stretch between Ghata and Vatika Chowk on the Sector 56–Pachgaon metro route along the Southern Peripheral Road (SPR). The proposal was submitted to Haryana Mass Rapid Transport Corporation Limited in December last year.
Officials said the double-decker model has already been successfully implemented in cities like Nagpur, Jaipur, and Bengaluru, significantly reducing land acquisition needs and construction costs.
Elevated Road Network Expansion
GMDA is also exploring multiple elevated corridors to decongest key junctions:
●7.4 km corridor from Rajiv Chowk to the railway station and Atul Kataria Chowk
●Elevated road from Atul Kataria Chowk to Dwarka Expressway via Dundahera
3.7 km stretch from Mahavir Chowk to IFFCO Chowk

What It Means for Commuters
If executed as planned, the integrated metro-elevated road corridor could:
Reduce traffic congestion on Old Delhi-Gurugram Road
Improve last-mile connectivity to industrial hubs like Udyog Vihar
Cut construction costs and timelines
Create a seamless urban transport spine for Gurgaon
With rapid urbanisation and rising traffic volumes, the double-decker model may soon become a defining feature of Gurgaon’s evolving skyline.
