In a major push to tackle recurring waterlogging, the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has directed officials to implement a strict, time-bound action plan to curb flooding across Gurugram.
During a high-level review, the GMDA chief emphasised the need for seamless connectivity between surface drains and master drains, especially along the busy Southern Peripheral Road (SPR) corridor. Officials have been instructed to ensure that stormwater flows smoothly without bottlenecks, particularly toward critical outlets like the Badshahpur drain.
Strict Deadlines and Zero Tolerance on Lapses
Authorities have been asked to follow strict timelines and eliminate delays in ongoing projects.
Key instructions include:
●Immediate removal of construction and demolition (C&D) waste
●Clearing debris from drains to prevent blockages
●Ensuring end-to-end drainage connectivity
Officials said the focus will be on preventing the kind of urban flooding that has repeatedly disrupted traffic and daily life in Gurugram during monsoon seasons.
Desilting, Check Dams and Natural Drain Revival
As part of the plan, multiple on-ground measures are already underway:
●Desilting of major drains to improve water flow
●Restoration of natural drainage channels
●Construction of check dams in the Aravalli region to regulate runoff
Authorities are also working on increasing the number of roadside gullies, which will help in faster drainage of rainwater during heavy showers.
Green Measures and Waste Control
The GMDA chief also stressed environmental solutions alongside infrastructure upgrades.
Officials have been directed to:
●Launch plantation drives during the monsoon
●Expand green belts to improve water absorption
●Take strict action to prevent waste dumping in drains
These steps aim to create a more sustainable and long-term solution to the city’s flooding problem.

Coordinated Execution with Minimal Disruption
The administration has called for better coordination between departments to ensure smooth execution of the plan without causing inconvenience to commuters.
Officials said efforts will be made to minimise traffic disruptions while carrying out drainage and road integration works across sectors.
