In a major move to strengthen India’s public distribution system, the government has made e-KYC (electronic Know Your Customer) nearly mandatory for ration card holders across the country. The initiative aims to ensure that only genuine and eligible beneficiaries receive subsidised food grains, while eliminating fake or duplicate entries from the system.Under the new rules, ration card holders must link their Aadhaar with their ration card and complete biometric verification. Authorities have warned that failure to complete e-KYC on time could lead to disruption or suspension of ration benefits.
Despite repeated appeals, a large number of beneficiaries have still not completed the process, putting their entitlements at risk.
How to Complete e-KYC Through Your Ration Dealer
The most common and easiest way to complete e-KYC is through your nearest ration shop.Beneficiaries are required to visit their local fair price shop with their Aadhaar card and ration card. At the shop, verification is done using a biometric system, where fingerprints are scanned through an e-POS machine.
It is important to note that e-KYC must be completed separately for each family member, as individual verification is mandatory under the system. Once completed, the data is updated digitally, ensuring uninterrupted ration supply.
How to Check Your e-KYC Status Online
While the verification process itself is done offline, beneficiaries can check their e-KYC status online.
By using the Mera Ration App or visiting their respective state food supply department portals, users can log in and access the “Aadhaar Seeding / KYC Status” section.
This allows them to verify whether all family members have completed their e-KYC or if any pending entries remain.
Important Guidelines You Must Follow
Authorities have stressed that this process should not be taken lightly. Beneficiaries must ensure that their Aadhaar details, especially the linked mobile number, are updated and accurate, as OTP-based verification may be required. Each family member’s e-KYC must be completed individually. In case of technical issues or data mismatches, beneficiaries are advised to contact their nearest ration dealer or the food and civil supplies department for assistance.

Why e-KYC Is Crucial for the System
The e-KYC initiative is part of a broader effort to make the Public Distribution System (PDS) more transparent, efficient, and technology-driven.
By linking Aadhaar and conducting biometric verification, the government aims to:
●Eliminate fake and duplicate ration cards
●Reduce leakages and corruption
●Ensure timely delivery of benefits to genuine beneficiaries
This digital transformation is expected to make the system more reliable and accountable.
Act Now to Avoid Disruption
The message from authorities is clear —
e-KYC is no longer optional, it is essential.
For millions of ration card holders, completing this process on time is critical to continue receiving subsidised food supplies without interruption.
